چکیده

SUMMARY Understanding deep crustal structure can provide us with insights into tectonic processes and how they affect the geological record. The be studied using a suite of seismological techniques such as receiver function analysis, body surface wave tomography. Using models derived from these methods, it is possible to delineate boundaries regions that may have been affected by similar processes. However, often velocity are grouped in somewhat subjective manner, potentially meaning some insight missed. Cluster based on unsupervised machine learning, used more objectively group profiles and, thus, put additional constraints structure. In this study, we apply hierarchical agglomerative clustering shear obtained previous studies focused region joint inversion functions dispersion data at 59 sites surrounding Hudson Bay. This location provides an ideal natural laboratory study Precambrian processes, including 1.8Ga Trans-Hudson Orogen. We use Ward linkage define distance between clusters, gives most physically realistic results, after testing number clusters 2 10, find there 5 main stable models. then compare our results different parameters, schemes (K-means GMM), well for azimuths that, overall, consistent. form correlate geology, thickness, regional tectonics geophysical concentrated specific regions. Archean domains (Rae, Hearne Superior) clearly distinguished influenced Proterozoic orogenic events (Southern Baffin Island Ungava Peninsula). Further, crust Melville Peninsula found same cluster western coast Peninsula, suggesting Our shows promising learning interpreting structures gain new insights.

Numbers and distribution of beluga whales, Delphinapterus leucas, in James Bay, eastern Hudson Bay, and Ungava Bay in Canada during the summer of 1993

James, Hudson and Ungava bays are summering areas for stocks of beluga whales (Delphinapterus leucas) (Sergeant and Brodie, 1975; Finley et al., 1982; Smith and Hammill, 1986; Richard et al., 1990). There are several apparently separate summer groups, which include a summer group of ~23,000 individuals in western Hudson Bay, a group of 1500 individuals in the eastern Hudson Bay arc, and a few i...

Beluga whale summer habitat associations in the Nelson River estuary, western Hudson Bay, Canada

To understand beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas) estuarine use in the Nelson River estuary, southwest Hudson Bay, we recorded and examined beluga movements and habitat associations for the July through August period in 2002-2005. We compared locations of belugas fitted with satellite transmitters ("tags") (2002-2005) and aerial-surveyed (2003 and 2005) belugas for years of differing freshwate...

Mortality from Smallpox: The 1780s Epidemic in the Hudson Bay Region

The smallpox epidemic that passed through the Hudson Bay region in 1780-82 is reported to have devastated the native population, causing mortality of 60 to 90 percent. We reassess this claim using three approaches. First we review case-fatality rates from smallpox in more recent, well-documented epidemics; we discuss the nature of smallpox transmission; and we review the possible impact of gene...
